With its catch phrase “Ideas Worth Spreading”, it started as a one –off event for technology and design, but lately it has spread to other areas like science, culture, education etc.

TED Talks has attracted many thought leaders, scientists and noble prize winners.The conference has inspired many people, because of the insights given by speakers; from human nature to break through in science and technology.

1. Simon Sinek: How great leaders inspire action

Simon Sinek is a Leadership expert. He is the author of bestselling classic “Start With Why: How Great leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action”.

Simon speaks about how leaders in the field of politics, sports, organization have the capacity to inspire. In this talk he speaks about how leaders can inspire cooperation, trust and change.

In his book, he has given the idea of the “Golden Circle”, which explains why people are inspired by some people, messages, leaders and organization over others.

2. Dan Pink : The puzzle of motivation

Dan Pink is a career analyst, who has written influential bestsellers about career, workplace and motivation. He left his old job as Al Gore’s speechwriter to do research in career market place.

Dan’s book has changed the perception of many companies towards workplace and employees. The shift of information based corporate culture to creativity and idea base culture has inspired his books.

In this TED talk, he speaks about the puzzle of motivation, the critical question of rewards not being as effective as we think for employee motivation.

3. Susan Cain : The power of Introverts

Susan Cain is the author of the book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking. A former lawyer and corporate consultant, she is a self-described introvert.

In her book she argues that one- third of the people in this planet are introverts, but still our world recognizes being social and outgoing as above all. She makes a case for the quiet and creative introverts in her book.

Introverts have contributed to society, be it the invention of personal computers or the concept of non-violent transformative leadership.

In this talk, she argues that our traditional schools, workplaces and religious institutions are designed for the introverts.

Through intensive research in neurobiology and psychology, she has pointed out the bias created in our society and workplace against the introverts, which has resulted in a waste of talent, inventions and creativity.

Introverts are talented and creative people, and they should be rewarded and encouraged in every field.

4. Amy Cuddy : Your body language shapes who you are

Amy Cuddy is a social Psychologist. Her research on body language had many interesting results. How body language can influence other people’s perceptions as well as your bodies chemistry influencing your brain.

In her college years, she had a major car accident with severe head injuries. Doctors treating here believed that she would not recover fully and doubted her intellectual capacity to finish her undergraduate degree; in fact she wasn’t supposed to be a research scientist.

Amy Cuddy is a professor and researcher at Harvard Business School, where she is doing research on nonverbal behavior and snap judgments. Her pioneering work on “Power Posing”, how body language affects others and your own brain’s chemical reaction has been cited by many other researchers.

Standing with your shoulders back in a posture of confidence can influence how you feel, even if you are not feeling confident. These “Small Power posing” can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, which can impact your overall chances of achieving success.

5. Larry Smith: Why you will fail to have a great career

Larry Smith is a well-known professor of economics at University of Waterloo in Canada. He is well known in student’s groups for his advocacy of youth leadership.

He has mentored many students on their startups with respect to business management and career development. He has helped many students to find their passion and developed it into a successful career.

His works include motivating students to pursue career that they will truly love. He has mentored the company Research in Motion (RIM), the makers of BlackBerry in its infancy.

In this funny and power talk, he speaks about why people fail to start their own business or why people fail to pursue their passion. He pulls up the core reason of “excuses”, why many people fail by giving absurd excuses.
